Prior to
the invention of glass fiber, steel, and graphite fishing rods, split
bamboo or single piece cane dominated the fishing rod market. The split
bamboo fly and bass rod tradition in the West is well-known, but Japan
has its own bamboo rod building tradition. The Pagani series taps into
this tradition and combines with the modern design and technology of
Megabass. If you want to experience the kind of bass fishing Dr. Henshall
(the author of Book of the Black Bass) and others enjoyed in the
end of the 19th century, you must get a hold of split bamboo rods, and
perhaps no gear reels (meaning 1:1 gear ratio) and silk line. Welcome to
the world of classic fishing tackle. You realize quickly that you have
to work much harder, and that the tackle itself require a lot of care.
But, at the same time you will be more involved with fishing. In fact,
you will sweat a lot. It may appear to you at first that Megabass, which
introduced the Destroyer rods with Hi-10x graphite blanks to the world,
has nothing to do with 'outdated' bamboo rods. However, that is far from
the truth. Megabass' intention has always been to expand angling
experience beyond conventional limitations not only in terms of design
and technology, but also in terms of the imagination and mindset we have
been trapped in.
While fishing with classic tackle complete with silk line is like living in a log house with no electricity (which has a certain attraction), Pagani rods are a modern adaptation of the classic tackle, designed with the intention to appreciate the action of split bamboo blanks (which tend to be much heavier and less sharp than graphite blanks). As a result, the rod’s balancing point is further forward. There are two spinning models (Pregunta): 5’-2” and 5’-5”, and three bait casting models (Rossa Pregunta): 5-3, 5-6 and 5-8. The spinning models are light action rods (lure weight range: 2g-7g), designed for finesse fishing for bass and trout. The lure weight range of the bait casting models are, 5-3 model: 4g-15g, 5-6 and 5-8 models: 5g-16g. As you can see, unlike classic bamboo rods the Pagani models can handle small top-water baits to well over half oz. baits due to faster (taper) tips with slower mid sections. The key to understanding the Pagani bamboo series is that while blank material may be good old bamboo, the blank and overall design is no longer “classic.” All 5 models are 2-piece construction.

Developed for top water fishing with a nod to the history of bamboo rods, Pagani rods are visually and materially distinct from other Megabass rods. The Pagani Graphite's blanks are made of high modulus graphite with less resin than normal, allowing each blank to bend with an action reminiscent of bamboo and yet retain the sharp feel of graphite.
